Nespresso coffee machines came to revolutionize the world of coffee about 20 years ago, but it wasn’t until 2012 that I began to be curious about using these capsules to create art. Needless to say, because of ecological reasons, I do not and will not own a Nespresso machine. However, my husband’s best friend had one and showed me the capsule. I was immediately fascinated by the color and how beautiful they were. I started inquiring what happened to the capsule once processed, and he simply replied: we throw it into the trash!
I honestly forgot about the capsules until Christmas came around. I got as a gift a neat book about DIY accessories and, by coincidence, the book had a section on coffee capsule jewelry. My thoughts quickly went back to that afternoon at our friend’s place.
I decide to call our friend and kindly request to have their discarded coffee capsules. I was determined to experiment with this material. I started to recreate the design from my DIY book, but I was disappointed because the designs were dull and they didn’t show off the beautiful colors of the capsules. One sleepless night , I started playing around with the idea of creating more exclusive, unique designs. Bridal designs, perhaps? The next day, I shared the idea with some friends, only to be met with skepticism and disbelief.
Sleepless night number two came around, and I finally dared! I stayed up until 2 am creating my first tiara. The nex day, I was exhausted but also incredibly proud and amazed by the results.
Since then, I haven’t stopped. I can say I found my passion and I’m sticking to it! And to top it all, we are reutilizing materials that would otherwise be damaging to our Mother Earth. I dedicate time, patience, and love to each one of my pieces, and I hope you see this reflected in my work.
